A revered gospel performer Crowder released a beautiful brand-new track entitled “Red Letters” and a performance video.
The American Contemporary Christian music singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and author ‘David Wallace Crowder‘, popularly known by his mononymous stage name Crowder releases a song titled “Red Letters.”
Crowder dropped the track on September 19th, 2018 and announced his third album; I Know a Ghost. He explained the significance of the song in a video posted on his YouTube channel “When I was just a child, I can remember sitting in the pew of the church with my grandmother, I asked her why a portion of her Bible was printed in red. She explained that it that it was that it’s the Red Letter edition and whenever Jesus God’s only Son spoke it was recorded in red. As a child, I thought it was the way God recorded it. It wasn’t. I was not right. Concerning this and many other things. It turns out that it was a man who went by the name of Louis Klopsch. It was the end of the 1800s and he wanted everyone to not just have access to the Bible, but also for the tale about God’s reconciliation to leap from the pages just as it did been for him. In the past, translators such as the King James did not have punctuation marks which are used in common today. Imagine how difficult a lot of passages would be without quotes marks, or complete stops. One night when he was reading Luke 22:20: ‘This cup symbolizes the New Covenant made in my blood, that pours out for you’, and that is the moment that the Rev. Klopsch had an idea to put the sayings from Jesus with red. The idea didn’t end there, the editors and he went back to the beginning, and selected any passage from the Old Testament that predicted the coming of the Messiah and any other scriptures in the scriptures that Jesus is quoted in saying and then put them in red too as a scarlet thread weaving across all time and the creation”.

Lyrics to Red Letters by Crowder
There I was on death row
Guilty in the first degree
Son of God hanging on a hill
Hell was my destiny
The crowd was shouting crucify
Could’ve come from these lips of mine
The dirty shame was killing me
It would take a miracle to wash me clean
Then I read the red letters
And the ground began to shake
The prison walls started falling
And I became a free man that day
Felt like lightning hit my veins
My dead heart began to beat
Breath of God filled my lungs
And the Holy Ghost awakened me
Yeah, the Holy Ghost awakened me
When I read the red letters
And the ground began to shake
The prison walls started falling
And I became a free man that day
For God so loved the whole wide world
Sent his only Son to die for me
Arms spread wide for the whole wide world
His arms spread wide where mine should be
Jesus changed my destiny
Thank You, God, for red letters
When the ground began to shake
The grace of God started falling
And I became a free man that day
The prison walls started falling
And I am a free man… today
