Bethel Music offers an exciting new song titled “Ain’t No Grave” that is sure to delight and lift the spirit of a Christian. But, the song is more than simply a tune. It’s a reality.
The track was recorded by Bethel Music and Molly Skaggs. It is released in a promo single from Bethel’s eleventh live record, Victory (2019), on January 4, 2019. The track was composed by Jonathan David Helser, Melissa Helser and Molly Skaggs, with Claude Ely receiving a posthumous award for interpolating his identically named original composition. Ed Cash composed the single. The track peaked at No. 17 on the US Hot Christian Songs chart despite being officially released as a single.
Skaggs introduces the track: This song is a classic of Appalachian Gospel music. It’s a union of the old with the original Brother Claude Ely chorus and the brand new personal experience of conquering shame and fear woven in every line. This song, for me, is rooted in the truth of Jesus and all that He has done to me and my fellow community members and anthem to anyone who wants to walk with Jesus and leave the graves of their daily life. “Ain’t No Grave” is a declaration to faith and a hymn for those who are willing to get rid of the victim-centred race to the realness of who they are.”
The song is the debut release of Bethel Music’s VICTORY, available on January 25, 2019. The album is packed with fourteen confident, declarative songs recorded in live performances in the sanctuary of Bethel Church. The album was an inspiration from the story about King Jehoshaphat and the miraculous Victory achieved by sending worshipers to frontlines of the battle. 2 Chronicles 20:22 “As they began to sing and praise, the Lord, the Lord put up an ambush to the invaders from Judah and fell.”
Lyrics to Ain’t No Grave by Bethel Music
Verse 1
Shame is a prison as cruel as a grave
Shame is a robber and he’s come to take my name
Love is my redeemer lifting me up from the ground
Love is the power where my freedom song is found
Shame is a prison as cruel as a grave
Shame is a robber and he’s come to take my name
Love is my redeemer lifting me up from the ground
Love is the power where my freedom song is found
Chorus
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
When I hear that trumpet sound, I’m gonna rise up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
Verse 2
Fear is a liar with a smooth and velvet tongue
Fear is a tyrant, he’s always telling me to run
Love is resurrection and love is a trumpet sound
Love is my weapon, I’m gonna take my giants down
Chorus
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
When I hear that trumpet sound, I’m gonna rise up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down
Verse 3
There was a battle, a war between death and life
There on a tree the Lamb of God was crucified
He went on down to hell, He took back every key
He rose up as a lion and He’s setting all the captives free
Chorus 2
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
When He heard the trumpet sound, He rose up out of the ground
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
There ain’t no grave gonna hold my body down(2x)
