Them that’s got shall get
Them that’s not shall lose
So the Bible said and it still is news

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own

Yes, the strong gets more
While the weak ones fade
Empty pockets don’t ever make the grade

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own

Money, you’ve got lots of friends
Crowding round the door
When you’re gone, and spending ends
They don’t come no more

Rich relations give
Crust of bread and such
You can help yourself
But don’t take too much

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own

Mama may have, Papa may have
But God bless the child that’s got his own
That’s got his own

He just don’t worry ’bout nothin’
‘Cause he’s got his own

About God Bless The Child Lyrics,Video And Song By Billie Holiday

It’s odd that Billie Holiday’s simple “God Bless The Child Lyrics,Video And Song”, grew from a dispute with her mother. Tony Bennett described Holiday as “almost like an audio tape of her autobiography.” Holiday and Arthur Herzog Jr. are both credited with “God Bless The Child”, although they later claimed sole credit. Holiday claimed that the song was written quickly in 1939. Holiday claims she did it because her mother refused her a small loan. Holiday was also bankrolling her restaurant. She wouldn’t give me one cent. She was mad at me, I was mad at them. “Then I said, “God bless the child who’s got his own”, and then I walked out,” according to Lady Sings the Blues.

After three weeks of stewing, “a whole damn track” finally came together. She rushed to Greenwich Village to get help from songwriter Herzog. She wrote that “we changed the lyrics in a few spots, but not too much.” Donald Clarke’s biography on Holiday says that Herzog has a different story. The still-angry singer shared her story with Herzog and then got to the part where she screamed, “God bless the baby!” Herzog interrupted the conversation with, “What does that mean?” They had a song twenty minutes later.

Herzog claims that Holiday’s contribution to the music was only to change the title and story. Herzog managed to find a publisher that day. Holiday recorded it for the Okeh label, but not until 1941. It was a modest hit and peaked at No 25 on the Billboard charts. The lyrics combine the original spat with folk mottos and Biblical references. The opening lines “Them who has got will have/them who doesn’t shall lose” echo St Matthew’s parable about the talents.”

As God Bless The Child Lyrics,Video And Song  progresses, however, the lyrics change the parable’s context — it is man’s responsibility to make the best of what he has been given — to a different setting. “Rich relations give you crusts of bread and other such things so that you can help yourself, but don’t take too much” captures the idea of survival in an unjust world.

Holiday sang the song many times before she passed away in 1959 at the age of 44. In 1952, Holiday was with Count Basie. A video clip shows Holiday in front of the brass section. Every time she sang the song, she altered the phrasing, pitch and placement, but created the illusion that the notes were being heard precisely as they were written.
