American Gospel Artist VaShawn Mitchell released a single featuring a concert video for the song entitled ” Chasing After You.”
Mitchell began working with his mentor, the late Lonnie Hunter, a member of St. Mark Baptist Church. When he was 20, Mitchell’s talent in music was recognized by Bishop Larry Trotter, and he was appointed the Minister of Music for Chicago’s Sweet Holy Spirit Church. As the minister of music, he was in charge of every aspect of the division. He was later able to create songs that have since become the most well-known selections from music in the African American church. Don’t Last, and My Worship Is For Real. VaShawn has also recorded and released his first solo album entitled So Satisfied.
As a songwriter, Mitchell has written songs for Smokie Norful Vanessa Bell Armstrong and Bishop Paul Morton. Mitchell has also been a leader of worship. Over the years, he has recorded several of the top-selling choir albums and produced such hits like My Worship Is For Real and Trouble Don’t Last. In 2012, Mitchell created his Foundation, the Norman Youth and Arts Foundation, named in honor of his grandfather. The Foundation offers summer camps to youth to promote the arts throughout the Chicago region. Mitchell is also among the few Gospel artists who serve as a spokesperson and is involved with The Big Brothers and Big Sisters Foundation.
On December 31st, 2016, the announcement was made that VaShawn Mitchell was appointed in the position of General Superintendent for Music & Worship Arts of Mount Zion Baptist Church in Nashville, Tennessee.
