Gospel rapper Tobymac has released a brand new track called “Scars” and a performance video. Tobymac Scars is the latest single off his soon-to-debut album, The Elements, debut on the 12th of October. The seven-time Grammy award-winning gospel singer and songwriter drops the track after releasing his fastest charting single of his career ” I just need U.”
Where did the idea for Tobymac Scars come from? TobyMac claims it was born from the fact that he was a father. “For the very first time, in all my years of life, I was able to send ships out from the harbor. Since our family and our home has always been the harbor. People I love most are now dealing with the pain and struggle and the dangers of this crazy world. I’m conscious of the wounds incurred from life’s experiences; however, sometimes, we try to shield these things from those we cherish and our children. When they get out and face the real world, it’s a painful experience. I wrote this song for my son. I wanted him to know that I was there for him and that God would be there to help him. Therefore, lift your head, my son, and look where the source of your assistance comes from.”
TobyMac stated to Billboard that he “had a few people in mind” when he composed the track, but he began to focus on his son and explaining to Truett that life could throw heavy things at certain times. “I wanted him to know that he’s not alone when the world might get the best of him from time to time,” TobyMac continued. “When he looks up, and he’s got some scars, I wanted him to know that we all face those things and that he’s not alone in it.”
